This evening, the secret ballots were publicly counted in SCEA's election for the City concessions proposal. There were 277 ballots cast in the election, representing 61% of SCEA's total membership (452). Of those, 187 members (68%) voted to reject the concessions proposal. 90 members (32%) voted to approve the concessions proposal.
There were 189 ballots cast by mail, 124 (66%) of which were "no" votes and 65 (34%) of which were "yes" votes.
There were 88 ballots cast in the ballot box, 63 (72%) of which were "no" votes and 25 (28%) of which were "yes" votes.
There were 13 provisional ballots not counted, 12 of which were "no" votes and 1 of which was a "yes" vote. Counting the provisional ballots would not have affected the outcome of the election.
Ballots packages were mailed to the home of every SCEA member on June 6, 2009. The deadline for return of ballots by mail or in person was today. There was a general membership meeting held to discuss the terms of the concessions proposal, answer questions, and hear member concerns. The meeting happened on June 17, and was attended by approximately 150 SCEA members.
Approximately 20 SCEA members came to witness the counting of the ballots. The City has been notified of the results.
